Pioneering initiatives such as employing residents as trainees and continuously improving performance have secured a leading painting contractor a prestigious award from London & Quadrant Housing Trust.

J & S Seddon (Painting) Limited has been named Maintenance Contractor of the Year at the London & Quadrant Maintenance Awards.

Representatives from the company’s Borough Green office received the accolade, for their work undertaken in the South East Thames region, Bexley and the North Thames region.

J & S Seddon (Painting) has been working on the innovative £10 million partnering contract with London & Quadrant since August 2005, which involves more than 17,500 properties. Akzo Nobel products are specified for the work.

London & Quadrant has included its own training initiative, entitled STEP (Supported Training & Education Pathway), in the project, to create training opportunities in painting and decorating for its residents, and a customer care and quality processes from Seddon have ensured a high standard of work overall.

A spokesperson from London & Quadrant, said: “J & S Seddon (Painting) Limited have continuously worked with the Trust and residents not only during the partnering workshops, but also at the monthly meetings to review standards and to improve performance. They have delivered a good quality service with high levels of resident satisfaction.

“The contractor has fully embraced the Trust’s STEP training programme and has a number of trainees currently working on the project. It is expected that the number of trainees will increase in the future.”
