Reaching New Heights In Charity Effort
A Stoke-on-Trent woman has reached new heights to raise cash for the homeless.
After an arduous six-day trek, Lindsay Baggaley reached Point Lenana on Mount Kenya, scaling a height of 4985 metres, to raise funds for Homeless International.
Following the trek, Lindsay was able to see first-hand the charity work she is helping to support, with a tour of the slums in Nairobi where Homeless International is building homes for residents in the African city.
The 28 year-old chose to support Homeless International, after the company where she works as a personal assistant, Seddon, pledged its support to the charity over the last 12 months.
Already Seddon has raised more than £7,000 for the cause. Lindsay’s trek has already raised an incredible £10,000 – and she is hoping to get £12,000
in total.
Lindsay’s dance training, with Pauline Steel School of Dance, based in Fenton, helped keep her stamina up for the trek.
Lindsay, of Trentham, said: “It was a challenge to say the least.
“It was upsetting to see the conditions in Nairobi, but the people are very grateful to Homeless International for the support that they provide in constructing homes for them.
“I knew that altitude sickness could affect my chances of tackling the summit, but fortunately I was able to cope with the extreme conditions.”
Stuart Seddon, chairman of the J & S Seddon Limited, based in Fenton, said: “Lindsay is very committed and hardworking and we were all delighted to hear she’d completed the trek.
“To raise £12,000 from the event is an incredible achievement and reflects the great amount of effort she put in to complete the climb.”
