Room Service From Seddon
Students and staff at a Leicestershire school are enjoying the facility of their own private meeting room after a leading painting and maintenance company came to their aid.
A former office at Ashby School, a 14 to 19 specialist Technology and Languages College in Leicester Road, Ashby de la Zouch, is enjoying a new lease of life as The Seddon Room.
J & S Seddon Limited, who have been responsible for painting and maintaining Ashby School for the past five years, has refurbished, carpeted and decorated the area free of charge.
The facility, which has wireless internet access, is in such big demand that office staff have introduced a booking system.
Paddy O’Brien, Ashby School’s Director of Key Stage 4, said: “We have never had a private meeting room before in this part of the school.
“Previously we have had to share facilities in the main office so the new Seddon Room has proved a real bonus.
“We are using it for all sorts of purposes including interviews with parents, students and staff as well as an examination room for students who have to sit their exams individually with the help of a reader or writer.
“It is a massive advantage for us to have somewhere quiet and private, away from the interruption of office telephones, when we need to carry out interviews and we are very grateful to Seddon for helping us to complete the project.”
Senior administrator and school site manager Anita Allsop added: “We are a very busy school with 1,657 pupils on the roll and an ever-growing sixth form. We recognised last year that we needed somewhere private for confidential meetings and exam sessions for those in need of special facilities.
“The old office was not being used because it desperately needed refurbishing but we had no funding to do this until the next financial year.
“Seddon kindly offered to take on the project free of charge and we are delighted with the new facility which is already proving to be a brilliant asset.”
Sean Butler, contracts manager for the Leicester office of J & S Seddon, located in Westleigh Business Park, Blaby, said: “We have been working with Ashby School for at least 12 years, latterly on a five year painting and maintenance contract.
“When we first saw the meeting room, it was clearly in need of some repair, so we offered to bring it up to date with new decor, carpets and furniture as our way of giving something back to the school.
“Now we are delighted to see the Seddon Room being put to such excellent use.”
