J & S Seddon secure Community Champion’s Accolade
J & S Seddon’s wide-ranging work in the community has seen the company secure a prestigious business award.
The Stoke-on-Trent based building, painting and maintenance company won the Contribution to the Community category at The Sentinel’s Business Awards.
Representatives from the company were on hand to receive the Stoke-on-Trent City Council sponsored accolade, at a glittering ceremony held at the Best Western Stoke-on-Trent Moathouse Hotel.
Although a national player in its sector, J & S Seddon is a family-owned business that likes to give something back to the community.
From helping to fund and organise a trip to Lapland for special needs children, to running one of North Staffordshire’s largest in-house apprenticeship schemes, the company’s long-standing commitment to people continues to have a positive impact on the local community.
J & S Seddon is part of Seddon Group who have recently signed up to a unique scheme to raise money for Manchester’s Christie hospital for research into a revolutionary cancer treatment, known as ‘Magic Bullet’.
For each of the next two years the company has pledged a straight donation of £75,000. In addition, the company has pledged to match pound for pound, any monies raised by employees in support of the research, guaranteeing a minimum donation of £100,000 each year - but Seddon staff are being encouraged to take the total to £125,000 a year.
The presentation of the Contribution to the Community award is not the first time that J & S Seddon’s commitment to people has been recognised. Last year the company, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007, won the Leadership in People Award at the Constructing Excellence Awards held by the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence.
