Seddon staff scale the heights for cancer campaign

Staff from national building, maintenance and painting contractor, J & S Seddon, hit the heights for charity by completing the Three Peaks Challenge.
Twelve intrepid employees scaled the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in less than 24 hours – raising more than £10,000 for the company’s adopted charity, The Christie.
The Three Peaks challenge involves hiking up and down Snowdon, in north Wales, Scafell Pike, Cumbria, and Ben Nevis, in Scotland. The challenge has to be completed within 24 hours, including the driving between the three mountains.
Another five J & S Seddon staff members supported the challenge, tackling Ben Nevis and Snowdon within 24 hours.
J & S Seddon is part of the national Seddon Group, which has launched a two-year campaign to raise £250,000 to help Christie experts develop a UK centre of excellence for ‘Magic Bullet’ treatment and fund further research.

One Three Peaks Challenge team member Mark Brindley, Joint Managing Director of one of the Seddon companies, said: “It was extremely hard going at times but we worked as a team and spurred each other on to complete the climb.
“We would like to thank all our sponsors from within our industry along with colleagues, friends and family members for donating money to us. It was a tough thing to do, but we are delighted that the money we raised will be used to help The Christie to fund their groundbreaking research programme.”
Magic Bullet treatment - also known as radioimmunotherapy - targets cancer cells without affecting the body’s healthy cells and works by adding a radioactive molecule to patient's antibodies so the antibody can then trigger the immune system to kill cancer cells.

Seddon Group is donating £75,000 each year to the cause. In addition to this donation, Seddon has pledged to match pound for pound any monies raised by its employees taking part in fund-raising events.

They have guaranteed the minimum amount donated will be £100,000 each year for the next two years – but Seddon staff are being encouraged to take the total to £125,000 each year.

J & S Seddon, which has its headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent and regional offices across England, Scotland and Wales, are taking part in several events this summer, with employees currently in training for the well known Great North Run in September.
